A Marion County man is part of the Veterans History Project (VHP), an archive at the Library of Congress cataloging the oral histories and personal documents of the men and women who served our country in uniform.
In advance of Veterans Day, the Senate Republican Conference featured U.S. Senator John Boozman’s (R-AR) efforts to promote the VHP and discussed his office’s participation in the program Off Topic video series.
Senator Boozman says he became intrigued with the VHP. He says, “One of my regrets is that my father, who was a waist gunner on B-17s in WWII, didn’t talk much about his experiences. I wish this project was going on before he passed away so we could have gotten his story.”
Boozman actively promotes, participates in and supports additional funding for the program. His office has trained more than 1,000 Arkansans to preserve the stories of veterans. He and his office have conducted 60 interviews that have been submitted to the VHP. Hear from some of the Arkansas veterans interviewed by Boozman’s office here.
Among those Boozman’s office has interviewed is Vietnam veteran Kenneth Ziemer, who now calls Yellville home but grew up in Wisconsin. Ziemer was stationed in Nha Trang, Vietnam.

In honor of Veterans Day, Boozman encourages Arkansans to get involved in the VHP and preserve the memories of veterans in their lives and communities.
