Mountain Home man picks wrong car to break into

A Mountain Home man picked the wrong car to break into early Saturday morning. Twenty-year-old Gregory Michael Mayfield was arrested after being apprehended by the owner of the vehicle who is a police officer.

According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, Mountain Home Police were called to a residence on Eighth Street shortly after midnight Monday to a report of someone who had broken into a vehicle. When the responding officer arrived, Mayfield had already been put into handcuffs by the off-duty police officer whose car was broken into.

Mayfield allegedly told police he broke into the car to get a coat because he was cold.

Mayfield is charged with a felony count of breaking or entering. His bond is set at $25,000.
