Don McLean gets star on Las Vegas' Walk of Stars

Jeremy Westby/2911 MediaDon McLean enjoyed another testament to his esteemed career by receiving a star on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars on Thursday.

According to a press release from Las Vegas Walk of Stars, the “American Pie” artist joins Elvis PresleyFrank SinatraDean MartinWayne NewtonDonnie & Marie and many others on the famed Walk.  McLean was honored at an unveiling ceremony held in front of the Paris Hotel and Casino on Las Vegas Boulevard. 

“I have performed in Las Vegas so many times over the past 45 years,” McLean said at the ceremony, “I hope that I can continue to bring my music to the venues all around Vegas so I can stop and visit my new star on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars. To receive such an honor that will live on forever is so great.”

McLean is one of America’s most successful songwriters, with 40 gold and platinum records to boast worldwide and besides “American Pie,” he has notched such other hits as “Vincent” and “Castles in the Air.” “American Pie” is one of the top five songs of the 20th Century, according to the RIAA. 

McLean is a 2002 inductee into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame and a 2004 inductee into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

“Don’s contributions to the entertainment business as a singer and songwriter have been written about in history books, therefore, it is also only fitting for Don to have his name enshrined within a star on Las Vegas Boulevard,” said Las Vegas Walk of Stars president Bob Alexander.

McLean is currently on tour, with his next stop on November 21 at City Winery in Chicago. He has concerts mapped out al the way through an August 22 concert with Alabama in Estero, Florida.
