A 15-year-old male Mountain Home student was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after allegedly assaulting a bus driver.

According to a Baxter County Sheriff’s Office report, the 46-year-old driver called 911 at 4:36 saying he had been assaulted by a student on his bus. The incident occurred in the area of the Mountain Home Bus Agency, located on U.S. Highway 62 West.

Officers arrived to see the bus parked on the eastbound shoulder of the highway. The report does not indicate if the vehicle was in motion when the incident occurred.

When officers arrived, the driver was reportedly standing in the bus next to his seat, with other students in the back seats.

The juvenile suspect was observed on his back on the floor of the vehicle, with his head behind the driver’s seat, is legs bent at the knees and his feet on the floor near the door.

The student allegedly “in a loud voice” told law enforcement the driver had told him and other passengers to not talk so loud. He is reported to have said he was trying to explain something to the driver, became frustrated and began hitting him. He said “he knew he had done wrong and once he had thrown his fit he felt better.”

Another student reported she tried to pull the 15-year-old male away from the driver, and while doing so, was kicked in the mouth, but not injured.

The male student was placed under arrest, transported to Baxter County Juvenile Services and is facing charges of disorderly conduct and third-degree battery.
