Yellville-Summit among local football teams beginning playoff action

High school football is included on the local Friday schedule, as the postseason gets underway in Arkansas.

Yellville-Summit will be one of three area schools sending their teams on the road for the start of the Class 3A State Playoffs. The Panthers’ opening opponent will be Newport.

Yellville-Summit comes into the game with a record of 2-8. The Panthers entered the playoffs as the fifth-seeded team from the 3A-2 after winning the Battle of the Buffalo over Marshall last week.

Newport is the No. 2 seed from the 3A-3. The Greyhounds are 8-2, as they come off an 11-point loss at Osceola.

Kickoff at Greyhound Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Melbourne’s first postseason game will be in Amity, as they meet Centerpoint in the Class 3A State Playoffs. The Bearkatz are the No. 3 seed from the 3A-2 with a record of 8-2. The Knights are also 8-2, and they’re the third-seeded team from the 3A-5.

Mountain View will also hit the road for the start of the Class 3A State Playoffs, as they face Greenland. The Yellowjackets are the fourth-seeded team from the 3A-2 with a mark of 5-5. The Pirates are 6-4 as the No. 3 seed from the 3A-1.

Harrison will be in front of the home crowd to begin the Class 5A State Playoffs, as they welcome Batesville to F.S. Garrison Stadium. The Goblins are undefeated and will have home field advantage as long as they remain alive as the champions of the 5A-West. The Pioneers are the fourth-seeded team from the 5A-East with a record of 4-6.

The postseason continues in Missouri, as district champions will be crowned this week. Ava continues with home field advantage, and they’ll take on Willow Springs in a battle between Bears for the title of the Class 2, District 3 Playoffs. Thayer will be the home team for the championship game of the Class 1, District 2 Playoffs, as they will be paired with Pierce City.
