Just days before Thanksgiving, the Mountain Home Rotary Club heard about the 4-500 meals the Salvation Army will serve for the holiday.

Major Ernest Branscum talked about the many services, projects and programs of the local unit in the five surrounding counties during a visit of the organization’s officers as special guests of the Rotary Club of Mountain Home.

In addition to Thanksgiving, Major Branscum gave details about what the organization provides families at Christmas time.

He said the angel trees displayed in many area businesses help many children receive a gift at Christmas that otherwise wouldn’t have one.

Major Branscum thanked the Rotarians for their many years of bell ringing at the holidays, saying about 40% of their annual funds comes through the Red Bell Ringing campaign.

He concluded his talk by saying both he and his wife were the “products” of the Army’s work when, as children, they received food, clothing and gifts from the caring people of the Salvation Army. The motto of the Salvation Army is “Doing the Most Good” – and the slogan of the Rotary Foundation is “Doing Good in the World.”
