An area bridge has been closed after it was found unsafe for traffic. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, repairs to the Beaver Creek bridge on U.S. Highway 160 east of Kissee Mills in Taney County will begin Tuesday and could last into mid-December.

The bridge was closed Friday after routine safety inspection showed major deterioration to the support structure. Concrete bridge columns supporting two of the four girders were severely deteriorated.

As MoDOT crews work to repair the damaged areas of the bridge, motorists are urged to use Missouri Highways 125 and 76 for a detour. The existing bridge was built in 1953 and carries nearly 2,000 vehicles a day.
