An information meeting concerning the legalization of recreational marijuana is set for Tuesday evening from 6 until 7:30 at Eastside Baptist Church in Mountain Home.

Four speakers are on the agenda, including Governor Asa Hutchinson via video, discussing the “danger of legalization of recreational marijuana.” Other speakers urging against signing a recreational marijuana petition include 14th Judicial District Prosecutor David Ethredge and Arkansas Surgeon General Dr. Gregory H. Bledsoe.

In late September, Gov. Hutchinson and Dr. Bledsoe were among more than 200 attending a meeting in Rogers launching a campaign to convince voters not to sign petitions to put recreational marijuana legislation on the 2020 ballot.

Following the meeting, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported petitions to get the measure on the ballot will require 89,151 signatures from registered Arkansas voters–a tenth of the number of voters in the last governor’s election.
