Children attending Gainesville’s Wonders of Christmas event Friday are invited to help trim the Historium’s Christmas tree. An interactive decoration station will feature instruction and the needed supplies to make colorful paper chains, paper snowflakes and foil-covered stars, “just like their grandparents and great-grandparents did in times past,” says a Historium volunteer.

The Ozark County Times reports with a nod to old-fashioned tree trimming from years gone by when students in one-room schools made their own decorations, a freshly cut cedar tree will be waiting to be decorated.

The activity is free to all who wish to participate.

The Historium is on the west side of the Gainesville square. A soup and chili supper will also be served in the Historium as a fundraiser, and tables will be available for those who wish to dine inside.

The Wonders of Christmas event will kick off at 6 p.m. on the Gainesville square and includes the 2019 Jingle Bell Parade at 7.

After the concludes, a Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held in the gazebo, along with a performance by the Gainesville Elementary choir and visiting with Santa. Parents are encouraged to bring a camera or phone to take their photos with Santa.
