The memory of Sgt. Mike Stephen will be honored in two events this weekend in Calico Rock.Stephen, who served with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office and as chief of the Pineville Fire Department, was shot and killed while responding to a domestic incident in July.To honor Stephen, the bridge over the White River at Calico Rock on State Highway 5 is being dedicated in his memory in a ceremony to be held Friday afternoon at 3:30.

The ceremony will be held beside the Calico Rock Museum on Railroad Street overlooking the bridge. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors in the Murphy Gallery of the Calico Rock Museum.

On Saturday, a tour will assemble on Main Street at 10 for a view of the Calico Rock Museum expansion site. The tour will be of an active construction site, so children are not permitted. Participants are encouraged to dress accordingly.

Saturday will also be the last day to tour the history museum. The facility will be closing until Phase II of the Calico Rock Museum expansion opens, hopefully in June. The visitor center and artisan cooperative will remain open this winter during construction.

Saturday’s event schedule includes the 6th Annual Living Windows displays and the Sgt. Mike Stephen Memorial Lighted Christmas Parade.

The Living Windows will be displayed Saturday evening from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. on Main Street.

Gloria Sanders, executive director of the Calico Rock Museum and Visitor Center, was a guest on KTLO-FM’s Talk of the Town this week, and she says the Living Windows will cover 13 storefronts.
