The six fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year have shortened the shopping season, and it’s also impacted The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign. In an effort to make up for the shortened schedule, The Salvation Army of Mountain Home’s bells were ringing with a heightened sense of purpose for Wednesday’s Kettle Cry event. Officials with The Salvation Army hoped to make up a $10,000 difference due to the shortened schedule in just one day.The bells were ringing into the evening hours, with the Kettle Cry event wrapping at 7, and Corps Assistant Bryan Brinlee says Wednesday’s kettle count was $5,683.10. Brinlee says during the same day last year, the local Salvation Army raised $3,002.59. He adds they are now down nearly $4,000.Major Ernie Branscum says the funds raised during the annual Red Kettle Campaign are a significant amount of the organization’s annual budget supporting numerous programs.
