A routine traffic stop in Cotter has led to the arrest of a Mountain Home man on a drug charge and a bond of $25,000. Fifty-five-year-old Bobby Morris is in the Baxter County Detention Center on a felony count of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) within 1,000 feet of a community/youth center.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Cotter Police Chief Travis Hopson observed a vehicle turn from Dalton Avenue onto Fourth Street Wednesday morning without signaling. The vehicle was parked within 1,000 feet of the North Arkansas Youth Center. The vehicle then turned from Fourth Street onto Combs Avenue without signaling, and Chief Hopson conducted a traffic stop.

The chief made contact with the driver, identified as Morris, and discovered he was on parole with a search waiver on file. Chief Hopson conducted a search and asked Morris if he had weapons, and he reportedly took a small dagger knife out of his waistband and laid it in the driver’s seat.

During the search, Chief Hopson reportedly located a clear plastic baggie with a large amount of a white crystal substance. Morris was placed into custody, and the substance allegedly field tested positive for methamphetamine. It later showed to weigh approximately 8.33 grams.

According to online jail records, Morris also faces charges of committing a habitual criminal act and parole violation.
