A California man, Frankie Carmody of Yuba City, whose age was not provided, has been charged with first-degree false imprisonment after Searcy County authorities discovered a woman bound with zip ties and screaming for help.
Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell says officers responded to a call at a residence along Watts Cemetery Road in Leslie Monday concerning a female threatening suicide.
Upon arrival, they were met outside by a man identifying himself as Carmody, who told officers his girlfriend was threatening suicide so he “tied her up.”
They found a woman on the floor of the residence with her hands and feet bound behind her secured with zip ties. She told law enforcement Carmody had tied her up, and she had been bound for one to two days. She said during her captivity, she had not eaten, but had received sips of water. She told authorities she had not threatened suicide and had no intention of harming herself.
Sheriff Cassell says bruises were noticed on the woman’s arms, wrists, ankles and across her chest area. The injuries appeared to be from the restraints and being bound for an extended period of time.
After speaking with Carmody, officials learned he had several warrants out for his arrest from different agencies and was listed as an absconder with a search waiver on file.
When authorities asked the California man for his identification, he directed them to a blue tent on the back porch of the residence. In the tent, officers reportedly found two rifles and a shotgun. As a felon, Carmody is prohibited from possessing firearms.
After clearing the scene, Carmody was transported to the Searcy County Detention Center. Sheriff Cassell says during the booking process, Carmody attempted to smuggle a lighter, marijuana and smoking tobacco into the facility by concealing it in his body.
In addition to the false imprisonment charge, Carmody faces enhanced penalties as a habitual offender and felony counts of possession of firearms by certain persons and furnishing, possession or using prohibited articles. He also faces a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance.
He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
