A 24-year-old Lakeview man pled guilty to breaking into vehicles and stealing items and was sentenced to five years in prison during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court last Tuesday.

Kevin Gerts was arrested in early September when a person called the Mountain Home Police Department and reported a male was attempting to break into vehicles at a local business.

When Mountain Home officers responded, they saw a male, later identified as Gerts, run across Bomber Boulevard and disappear behind houses.

After a short pursuit, Gerts was captured. Investigators were able to find stolen property taken from the vehicles behind the business.

Gerts was charged with four felony counts of breaking or entering, three felony counts of theft of property and a misdemeanor count of fleeing.

Gerts was on probation in another theft case at the time of his most recent arrest. He was given six years probation in February after pleading guilty to using information taken off the bank debit card of his then girlfriend’s grandmother to steal almost $400.

According to the probable cause affidavit in the earlier case, Gerts used the information to make four Western Union wire transfers in May last year. Gerts had the money sent to a friend and neighbor of his.
