After an almost five-hour, closed hearing and an executive session, the Mountain Home School Board Monday night voted unanimously to relieve head football coach Bryan Mattox of his coaching duties at the school.

The vote was by a 6-0 margin, with board member Neal Pendergrass absent.

The meeting was a special session called earlier Monday for an employee hearing. Mattox will continue his duties as a classroom teacher.

Mountain Home Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jake Long says Mattox has no issues with his teaching and nothing was addressed with his instructional position. He will remain a valuable member of the school system and continue to serve the students as an educator, according to Long.

Long says the search for the new head coach will begin immediately with posting the job through a variety of different avenues, as the school seeks to hire the next helm of the Bomber staff.

The job will be posted for five calendar days for in-district applicants and at least five days for out-of-district applicants. Long said due to the holidays, the process may take more than 10 days.

Long describes how the search process will take shape with Athletic Director Mitch Huskey.
