Tournament play continues Monday for area basketball teams

High school basketball makes up the local Monday schedule, as tournament play continues.

The North Arkansas College Invitational High School Tournament resumes at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison. On the girls’ side, Flippin and Jasper tip off at noon, Norfork faces Lead Hill at 1:20, and Cotter meets Clinton at 2:40. Cotter’s boys will take on Omaha at 5:20.

Two local boys’ teams will wrap up the Cabool Holiday Tournament. Gainesville plays Norwood for fifth place at 3:30, and top-seeded Dora will be paired with Thayer for the championship at 6:30.

The Viola boys will compete in the Division 2 semifinals of the NEA Basketball Tournament on the campus of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. The Longhorns will meet Bay at 4:30 at First National Bank Arena.

Izard County’s boys will play their third game in the Beach Ball Classic at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Cougars will go up against St. Thomas Catholic from Houston at 11 a.m.

Three area girls’ teams will play their last games in the Pink and White Tournament on the campus of Drury University in Springfield. In the White Division, Melbourne will compete for third place, as they face Republic at 2:30 in the O’Reilly Family Events Center, and Branson will have the fifth-place game at 5:30 in the Weiser Gym, as they take on Strafford. West Plains will play top-seeded Fort Smith Northside for the Pink Division title at 4 p.m. in the O’Reilly Center.

Two area boys’ teams will also be in Springfield for their final games of the Greenwood Blue and Gold Tournament at the Hammons Student Center. West Plains will be matched up with Reeds Spring for the consolation championship of the Gold division at 5:30, and Branson faces Bolivar for fifth place in the Blue Division at 7.
