Gary Miller/Getty ImagesA Guns N’ Roses superfan is facing legal action over alleged leaked recordings, according to TMZ.

The site reports that Universal Music Group accuses the fan, named Rick Dunsford, of leaking 97 unreleased GN’R recordings online. The label sent Dunsford a cease and desist letter, which apparently threatens further legal action if Dunsford does not comply.

Dunsford, who’s apparently been to over 30 Guns N’ Roses shows and even named his child Axl, first obtained the recordings from a storage unit auction for $15,000. The unit had belonged former Guns A&R person Tom Zutant, and included files from GN’R sessions recorded between 2000 and 2001.

According to TMZ, the band’s management learned of the sale, and Dunsford agreed to sell the recordings back for the same price, $15K. However, UMG alleges that Dunsford continued to leak the recordings after selling the songs back.

TMZ reports that Dunsford denies he’s responsible for the leaks.

In a statement to TMZ, a GN’R rep says, “It is tremendously disappointing, sad, and unfortunate that a record executive involved with the band in their early years found it appropriate to auction off the unreleased materials owned by his former employer.” The statement does not mention Dunsford specifically.

If Dunsford’s name sounds familiar, you may recall that, last fall, reports emerged that he’d been banned from attending Guns N’ Roses shows for life due to the conflict over the recordings.
