Residents of northern Arkansas and southern Missouri will see a little bit of everything weather-wise Friday and Saturday, with severe storms possible Friday night and wintry precipitation Saturday. A flash flood watch covers all of the area through early Saturday morning, and Douglas and Taney counties in our listening area have a winter-weather advisory Saturday.

Thomas Jones with the National Weather Service says we will see storms developing Friday afternoon.

Heavy rain is possible with the storms Friday afternoon and Friday night with the potential of 2 to 3 inches of rain. The weather service says because vegetation is dormant and not consuming much groundwater, runoff from heavy rain will be increased, elevating the concern for flash flooding.

As the day progresses Saturday, colder air moving in will bring chances of wintry precipitation to the area.

The winter-weather advisory for Douglas and Taney counties is from midnight Friday night until midnight Saturday night.

If you have travel plans Saturday, be aware toward Springfield about 1 inch of snow and 1/10 of an inch of ice is possible. Areas just west and north of Springfield will see 2 inches of snow and more ice. When you get towards Kansas City, they’re expecting 4-6 inches of snow.
