Author to speak to MHPS parents on bullying, conflict resolution

Mountain Home Public Schools will host international best-selling author and speaker Barbara Coloroso for a parent seminar covering current hot-button issues like bullying, discipline and conflict resolution. Coloroso’s presentation will take place at Mountain Home High School’s Dunbar Auditorium from 6:30 to 8  Tuesday evening.

Coloroso is an acclaimed author who has been featured on ABC, CBS, NPR, Oprah Winfrey and other national and international programs. Her expertise on parenting was developed throughout her career as a scholar, an educator, a consultant and also as a mother of three now-grown children.

Matt Sutton, the MHPS school-based mental health coordinator, notes having an expert like Coloroso visit the community will be of value to parents and grandparents across the area.

Sutton says, “It’s certainly not every day that we get to hear from someone with Ms. Coloroso’s level of expertise and wisdom. I am a parent myself, and I cannot wait to hear her perspective on some of the major issues facing children and parents today.”

Sutton adds Coloroso’s appearance in Mountain Home was made possible by a grant the district received to continue educating students and families about important mental health-related issues.

“Ms. Coloroso will be visiting with students and staff in our district about bullying and conflict resolution during the day on the 14th, and that evening will be a time where she gears her presentation toward parents and the ways we can navigate the challenging parenting landscape we’re facing today,” Sutton says.

District superintendent Dr. Jake Long says he believes Coloroso’s presentations will address a number of concerns he has heard from parents and community members.

“Our parents want what is best for their kids, and we want to be able to provide them with resources to help them navigate today’s challenges,” Long says.

Coloroso’s parent presentation is titled “Parenting with Wit and Wisdom: Raising Responsible, Resilient, Respectful and Compassionate Human Beings.”

Parents whose children do not attend Mountain Home Public Schools are also welcome to attend this presentation.
