Dave J Hogan/Dave J Hogan/Getty ImagesMeat Loaf has launched a lawsuit against a Texas hotel and the organizers of the Texas Frightmare Weekend convention after he was injured in an onstage fall last May while taking part in a Q&A session at the event.
Courthouse News Service reports that the singer and his wife, Deborah, are suing the Hyatt Regency at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and the event organizers, claiming that the two parties’ negligence was responsible for the accident. The suit alleges the Meat Loaf “sustained serious injuries to his neck, collar bone and shoulder” in the fall, and wound up hospitalized for 42 days.
The lawsuit, which was filed in a Texas district court on Monday, January 13, also claims that the singer continues to need physical therapy since the accident, and “has been unable to return to performing, causing him to sustain significant economic loss.”
Meat Loaf claims that the defendants set up the stage with curtains that obscured where the platform ended, thereby creating a “trap” and “hidden hazard.”
A Hyatt spokesman declined a request by Courthouse News Service for a comment on Monday, noting that the company doesn’t comment about ongoing litigation.
