So far, the veteran rockers have about a dozen confirmed shows on their itinerary, starting with a February 8 concert in Lincoln, Rhode Island, and spanning through a July 23 performance in Nashville. The new trek follows the group’s 2019 50 Years of Funk anniversary tour.

The current incarnation of Grand Funk Railroad, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, features two-thirds of the band’s original lineup — drummer/singer Don Brewer and bassist Mel Schacher — along with former KISS member Bruce Kulick on guitar, ex-Jack Mack and the Heart Attack and 38 Special singer Max Carl on lead vocals and Tim Cashion on keyboards.

In a new Q&A, Brewer reflects on what he thinks his band’s main contribution has been.

“Grand Funk has always been about ‘music with feel,'” he says. “Songs and performances are uplifting and we prefer to have people in the audience smiling and on their feet.”
