Missouri State University has picked a former Arkansas coach to lead its football program. A news release from the university Wednesday morning says a news conference to introduce Bobby Petrino as the school’s new head football coach will be held Thursday morning.

Petrino was Arkansas’ head coach from 2008-2011 where he had a record of 34-17 including an 11-2 record and ranking in the A.P. poll as high as number 3. He was fired during the offseason after having an accident while riding his motorcycle with a volleyball player from the school.

Petrino has also been the head coach at Louisville twice and at Western Kentucky. His overall record is 119-56.

Petrino replaces Dave Steckel who held the job for the past five years. Steckel and MSU mutually parted ways last week. Petrino becomes the Bears’ 21st head football coach.
