A local school district has started a new partnership to further provide necessary health needs to its students, faculty and staff at its school-based clinic. The new Boston Mountain Rural Health Center is partnering with the Yellville-Summit School District to provide telehealth services on the campus.Yellville-Summit’s partnership with the healthcare provider, headquartered in Marshall, started at the beginning of the month. Superintendent Wes Henderson says the district had been looking for a healthcare service after its partnership with another provider ended nearly two years ago.

Yellville-Summit School Health Coordinator Valerie Davenport tells KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News a student needing health or medical attention can first be evaluated by the school nurse. If the nurse has consent from the student’s parent or legal guardian, she can consult with a provider in the Boston Mountain system through a two-way video system. The provider can see and converse with the nurse and the patient, and he or she can listen to a stethoscope or view images provided by an otoscope. If a consent form has not been signed, the parent or guardian will be contacted prior to evaluation.
Henderson says the partnership has mutual benefits to the district and to Boston Mountain without costs to either one.

Boston Mountain Rural Health Center was established in 1994. It’s a family and community health center with 11 medical clinics and four dental clinics providing services to residents of Marion, Searcy, Stone, Boone, Newton, Van Buren, Carroll, Madison and Conway counties regardless of their ability to pay.
