The film, titled Rolling Stone: Life and Death of Brian Jones, premiered in London in December, and will open in select theaters around the world in the coming weeks.

The film follows Jones’ story, from founding and being the original leader of The Rolling Stones, to his struggles with drug abuse that led to his June 1969 firing from the band, to his death just one month later, which was ruled an accidental drowning, although many believe was the result of foul play.

The trailer features a variety of archival clips of Jones, including footage from films and home movies, and voice-over interview segments by a variety of unidentified people. The commentators note that early in The Stones’ career, Jones was perhaps the band’s biggest star, then discuss how he eventually began abusing drugs heavily and became a target of the U.K. police.

As the trailer nears its end, we see an aerial shot of the U.K. mansion Jones owned and the adjacent swimming pool where he was found the night he died at the age of 27. We also hear one commentator noting, “It’s wrong that a man’s death could be ignored and the truth be hidden so the establishment could play politics with drug culture on the back of that man’s death.”

Rolling Stone: Life and Death of Brian Jones was directed by Danny Garcia, whose previous films include documentaries about The Clash, New York Dolls guitarist Johnny Thunders, Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious and Dead Boys singer Stiv Bators.
