Courtesy of AEG PresentsRoger Waters has unveiled plans for a new North American trek called This Is Not a Drill, which kicks off July 8 in Pittsburgh and is scheduled through an October 3 concert in Dallas. The shows will be staged “in the round,” a first for the ex-Pink Floyd singer/bassist.
The 31-date trek will visit many venues Waters didn’t play during his 2017 Us + Them outing.
In a video promoting the tour, Waters explains that he was inspired to hit the road again because he thinks it’s important to get across his political message to people at a time of great upheaval in the world. “As the clock ticks faster and faster and faster down to extinction, it seemed like a good idea to make a fuss about it,” Roger maintains. “So that’s why I’m going on the road.”
As for why he’s playing the concerts in the round, he notes, “It’s something new, to us, to me. And I look forward to the challenge.”
Getting back to what’s motivating him to mount the new trek, Waters says, “To be blunt, we need to change the way we organize ourselves as a human race or die. This tour will be part of a global movement by people who are concerned for others to affect the change that is necessary.”
The video also features footage of Roger rehearsing with his backing band in a studio and playing live on stage. The clip includes snippets of performances of such Pink Floyd songs as “Comfortably Numb,” “Welcome to the Machine,” “Run Like Hell,” “Eclipse” and “Have a Cigar.”
Tickets for the This Is Not a Drill tour go on sale to the general public on Friday, January 31, at 10 a.m. local time, and will be available at RogerWaters.com.
