A new summer entertainment series will be coming to the city of Mountain Home in May. The announcement came Thursday evening at the Mountain Home Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet and membership meeting.

The Baxter Healthcare Summer Concert Series at Hickory Park will debut Saturday, May 23, says Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams. The event replaces the previous Mountain Home Block Party held on Friday nights on the courthouse square.

Mayor Adams explains what led to the changes to the downtown entertainment.

Baxter Healthcare’s sponsorship of the event will provide a broader range of entertainers for potential bookings, Adams says.

The changes in the series will also benefit Mountain Home’s Hickory Park, the city’s original park. Adams says construction will begin soon on an area just for the concert series.

The mayor says the relocation to Hickory Park will also allow for improved parking, with spaces at Farmers & Merchant’s Bank and the city’s parking lot across from city hall available. Some current spaces in Hickory Park will be available for handicap parking, as well as food trucks on hand for the event to provide concessions.

Adams says the concert series will remain a free event, but will not be held on a weekly basis. The mayor adds city officials hope to finalize the schedule for six to seven shows this summer and announce the opening act in the coming weeks.
