MHHS splits basketball games at Searcy

The Mountain Home High School basketball teams ended up with mixed results, as they played their last road games for 2 1/2 weeks at Searcy. Matt Sharp has the details.

The Lady Bombers began the evening by defeating the Lady Lions 53-30. Mountain Home started rough, as they turned the ball over on each of their first five possessions. The Lady Bombers settled down in the second quarter, as Kate Gilbert led the way to building a double digit lead. Mountain Home pulled further away from Searcy in the second half and went on to win by 23.
Gilbert led the Lady Bombers with 19 points, and Anna Grace Foreman added 18. No one was in double figures for the Lady Lions.
Mountain Home improves to 16-3 on the season and 5-1 in the 5A-East, and they remain in a three-way tie for first place in the league with Nettleton and West Memphis. Searcy falls to 5-13 and 0-6.

The Bomber boys did not fare as well in the late game, as they lost to the Lions 62-54. The game went back-and-forth for the first three quarters with 16 lead changes and six ties. The two teams were knotted up at 41 entering the final period, but the quarter was more than halfway over before Mountain Home was able to score another basket. Searcy would build a lead as big as 12 before going on to win by eight.
The Bombers were led by Wyatt Gilbert with 22 points, Dawson Tabor scored 15, and Mat Jones chipped in 12. For the Lions, Freddy Hicks had 28 points, and Braden Watson finished with 12.
Mountain Home drops to 11-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference. Searcy is now 9-9 and 4-2.

Mountain Home will begin a three-game home stand Friday, as they host West Memphis for Sweetheart Royalty.

In other 5A-East boys’ action, Jonesboro routs Nettleton 67-37, Marion pounded Paragould 73-28, and West Memphis beat up on Greene County Tech 65-36. On the girls’ side, Nettleton topped Jonesboro 63-46, Marion beat Paragould 59-45, and it was West Memphis over Tech 54-42.
