A summer concert series announced last week by Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams will have a second revenue stream.

The Mountain Home Advertising & Promotion Commission has matched the $25,000 donation from title sponsor Baxter Healthcare for the event, which has been christened as the Baxter Summer Concert Series at Hickory Park.

The Mountain Home City Council formed the Advertising & Promotion Commission in October 2013. Hotels began charging a 2% tax on Jan. 14, 2014. The commission determines how the funds from the hotel/motel tax are spent. The City of Mountain Home website lists forms describing the A&P Commission’s Special Event Advancement Program, which can provide seed money, advertising and publicity or A&P special events.

Mayor Adams says the A&P Commission approved supporting the series earlier this month at its regular monthly meeting.

The mayor also says the additional funds will make a big difference for the event.

The event, which replaces the Mountain Home Friday Night Block Party, will see improvements added to Hickory Park to accommodate performances. Adams says the late June event will be held in conjunction with the Red, White & Blue Festival at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home, and that evening’s performance will be held on the college campus.

So far, Adams says reaction has been positive overall, but some are unhappy the block party has ended.
