A Stone County man, 39-year-old Luke Wayne Berry of Mountain View, has been charged with second-degree felony battery following an incident in which the victim reportedly suffered a broken jaw, facial fractures and loose teeth.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Monday, law enforcement responded to the Stone County Medical Center Dec. 29 where the assaulted victim was being treated.

The woman said Berry had allegedly punched her in the face in the middle of Berry Lane in Mountain View. She said the blow almost knocked her unconscious.

The victim said she was left lying in the road, and it reportedly took her awhile to return to her home just a few hundred yards from where the altercation occurred.

Investigators learned the victim’s broken mandible was repaired with pins and plates, and she suffered broken sinus cavities and numbness in her teeth and gums.

The affidavit notes Berry has an extensive history of aggravated assault and battery in the second and third degrees. He has been convicted of four or more felonies, leading to an enhancement charge in the latest incident for being a habitual offender.

His bond was set at $50,000.
