Charges of theft of property and falsifying a business records have been filed against a Pulaski County woman who was employed by a local business.

According to the probable cause affidavit, 31-year-old Kayla Browning of Sherwood was arrested after a theft report was filed with the Mountain Home Police Department Jan. 7.

The victim reported Browning had access to the company’s credit card machine and had falsified four transactions sending refunds to an unknown account. The company is not identified in the affidavit.

The first in the series of transactions was completed on or about Nov. 21 last year, with others around Dec. 2 and Dec. 16.

It was a fourth refund attempt on or about Jan. 6 in the amount of $1,050 triggering a red flag alert hit that resulted in the business owner being contacted to question the ongoing transactions being sent to the unknown account.

The business owner questioned Browning at that time about the transactions. The report notes during the interview, Browning exited the business and never returned.

While the fourth transaction was stopped, the first three resulted in $2,175 being stolen from the business.

Browning faces one felony count of theft of property and one misdemeanor count of criminal attempt: theft of property, as well as two misdemeanors of theft of property and four of falsifying a business record.

Jail records indicate she was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center Tuesday morning at 10:12 and released about an hour and a half later after posting bond of $2,500.
