The reward has increased for a bell allegedly stolen from the historic Old Main Schoolhouse in Salem. Nearly two weeks after the bell was reported missing, the reward for its return is now at $1,000.

After the bell was reported missing,  Roger Meyers of the Thayer Plant Food Company offered $500 for information leading to its recovery. Last week, 1966 Salem High School graduate Dale Reynolds, a current resident of Nixa, sent a $500 check to be added toward the reward.

The bell is brass with an inscription around the top and several marks from being rung over the years. It’s believed thieves stole the bell by sawing the bolts holding it in place.

Anyone with information leading to the recovery of the bell or the apprehension of those responsible is asked to contact the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office at 870-895-2601.
