That’s the rumor after the band posted an enigmatic animated video clip and message on its social media sites Monday, and signs featuring the group’s famous tongue-and-lips logo popped up in several U.S. cities the same day.
The video, which is soundtracked to a snippet of “Brown Sugar,” features a starlit rural landscape that shows a train rolling by as The Rolling Stones’ logo appears projected in the sky. The accompanying message reads, “Feeling restless.”
In addition, newspapers in Minneapolis, Tampa and Austin, Texas, report that Stones-themed signage have appeared in those cities.
According to Minneapolis’ Star Tribune, an ice sculpture of the logo was placed outside of the IDS Center skyscraper in the city’s downtown area. Similarly, the Tampa Bay Times reports that on Monday, a banner with the Stones logo had been draped from Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium.
Lastly, the Austin Chronicle reports that a mural with the tongue-and-lips has been painted on a wall in downtown Austin, along with lyrical line from the classic Stones song “Gimme Shelter”: “It’s just a kiss away.” That paper also notes that it learned last week from a reliable source that the band would be playing Austin’s Circuit of the Americas racetrack over Memorial Day weekend this year.
We can only assume an official announcement about a 2020 Stones tour will be unveiled soon.
The band’s last North American trek was a 2019 leg of the group’s No Filter world tour that ran from June through August.
