University of Texas PressLongtime Go-Go’s bassist Kathy Valentine has written a book about her eventful, turbulent life and music career called All I Ever Wanted: A Rock ‘n’ Roll Memoir, which will be released on April 9. Coinciding with the autobiography’s publication, Valentine is releasing an accompanying soundtrack album featuring new original songs inspired by each chapter of her book.

In All I Ever Wanted, the 61-year-old rocker shares the story about how she made her way from her home state in Texas to Los Angeles, where she joined what became one of the most successful all-female rock bands of all time. Valentine’s book also recounts how the band enjoyed a fast rise to stardom, which offered a roller-coaster ride of sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll, only to fall apart after just a few years.

In her memoir, Kathy writes candidly about her struggles with drugs and alcohol, as well as about such topics as abortion and rape. She also discusses her experiences meeting celebrities including The Police, Rod Stewart, John Belushi, Rob Lowe and many others.

To promote All I Ever Wanted, Valentine is lining up a series of appearances that will feature book signings, music performances and Q&A sessions with fellow musicians like Go-Go’s drummer Gina Schock, X‘s John Doe, Bikini Kill‘s Kathleen Hanna, and Tanya Donnelly of Belly, and Throwing Muses.

The promotional tour kicks off March 28 in Woodstock, New York, and currently is scheduled through a May 28 event in Somerville, Massachusetts. More appearances will be added to Kathy’s itinerary soon.

Meanwhile, as previously reported, Valentine will hit the road with The Go-Go’s this summer for a U.S. tour coinciding with the Showtime premiere of a new documentary about the band.
