Following two separate pursuits by law enforcement, a Mountain Home man, 29-year-old Michael Fredrick Strange, was arrested and taken into custody after he pulled into the driveway of a residence and started walking toward the front door.According to the probable cause affidavit filed last week, the first pursuit began after a Mountain Home Police officer attempted a traffic stop shortly after midnight Jan. 17, as a vehicle driven by Strange turned from U.S. Highway 62 onto Club Boulevard. The suspect, later identified as Strange, ignored the emergency lights of the pursuing patrol unit, passing several areas allowing space for him to pull over. When Strange’s vehicle reached the intersection of Club Boulevard and Spring Street, he activated its emergency flashers and accelerated.
The pursuit continued into Buzzard Roost Road reaching speeds between 80 and 100 miles-per-hour. Strange’s vehicle ran the stoplight at the intersection of Buzzard Roost Road and the Sheid-Hopper Bypass, turning toward Walmart.
The pursuing officer terminated the chase at this point.
About 15 minutes later, another officer spotted Strange’s vehicle on Kingsberry Drive and a second attempt to stop it was made. Again, Strange fled, with law enforcement following him as he pulled into the driveway of the residence and placing the Mountain Home man under arrest as he approached the home.
A search of his vehicle allegedly yielded a white crystalline substance and a backpack containing a camera with a part of a display case attached.
A supplement to the affidavit notes video surveillance was obtained from the Mountain Home Walmart. Images indicate Strange cut the security cord from a camera attaching it to the shelf. The cord recovered from Walmart matches the one attached to the camera in Strange’s backpack. Strange also reportedly took other merchandise from Walmart he had in his shopping cart. A restitution amount was to be provided.
Strange has been charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, as well as two misdemeanor counts of fleeing and single counts of refusal to submit to arrest, reckless driving and shoplifting. His bond was set at $7,500.
