Local residents are enjoying the results of a partnership between Baxter County and its municipalities and the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District headquartered in Harrison bringing thousands of grant dollars for needed projects. That was the message the economic development district’s executive director, Joe Willis, brought in a presentation to the Baxter County Quorum Court this week.

After his presentation, Willis told KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot news the latest grant award is one of the largest secured through the partnership.

Two other recent examples of local grants made possible with the assistance of the economic development district are the matching grant of $96,500 from the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism to the City of Mountain Home and $50,000 to the City of Cotter for improvements to the North Arkansas Youth Center from the same state agency.

Other grant recipients through the years as a result of partnerships with the economic development district include Briarcliff, Lakeview and Gassville.

Willis told the quorum court the economic district is one of eight in Arkansas created legislatively in 1969 following the passage of the Public Works Act in 1965 at the federal level.

NWAEDD’s service area includes Baxter, Marion, Searcy, Newton, Boone, Carroll, Madison, Washington and Benton counties.
