A Midway area couple arrested after law enforcement responded to a domestic disturbance call, and then found drugs, made appearances in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday entering not guilty pleas.

Despite the fact an alleged physical confrontation between 32-year-old Alexandria Hoffman and 35-year-old William Malone initially brought Baxter County deputies to a home along State Highway 178 West, Hoffman wanted a no contact order keeping Malone away from her and their shared residence lifted.

Circuit Judge Gordon Webb said he would allow the no contact order to remain in place for now.

When deputies arrived at the couple’s home on Jan. 21, they observed what were described as minor injuries to Hoffman. She told the deputies Malone caused them. In addition, Hoffman said she had attempted to call 911, but Malone had taken the phone from her.

She also alleged Malone would not let her leave the residence and choked her when she told him she was going to call 911.

After Malone was taken to the county jail, another deputy stayed at the scene to take statements. He reported stepping on an item on the floor by a living room table. It turned out to be an improvised device used to ingest drugs. A small amount of the methamphetamine was found in a box. One deputy reported the contents in the device appeared to be a mixture of methamphetamine and fentynal.

After the drugs were found, Hoffman was taken into custody and joined Malone at the detention center.

They are both to reappear in circuit court June 18. Both are free on bond. Hoffman posted a $2,500 bond, and Malone’s bond was set at $5,000.
