Single Arkansas welding student in top 10 from Calico Rock

A Calico Rock student, Zachary Crawford, was Arkansas’s lone top 10 finisher in competition at the Missouri Welding Institute (MWI) this past week.

The welding students from Calico Rock went up against 193 others from six states for the chance to win a scholarships and tuition at MWI.

Only 53 students competing this year completed the required tasks and made it to judging. Calico Rock had three students make the cut. Those students were Crawford, Weston DeLoach and Clayton Thompson. Crawford was the only student from Arkansas placing in the top 10 and finished eighth overall.

This is just the third year students from Calico Rock has competed in this event.

Principal Anita Nordrum says school officials are proud to offer several vocational opportunities, including certifications from the American Welding Society in MIG, TIG and stick welding.
