
The season came to an end Wednesday for the Mountain Home freshmen basketball teams in the quarterfinals of the Northeast Arkansas District Tournament at Paragould.
The Junior Lady Bombers ended up falling to top-seeded Marion 33-28. Mountain Home’s final record for the year is 12-11.
Mountain Home did not fare any better on the boys’ side, as they lost to Annie Camp 42-14. The Junior Bombers wrap up the season at 7-17.
Elsewhere, the 1A-2 Junior District Tournament wrapped up its quarterfinal round at Izard County High School in Brockwell.
Top-seeded Norfork won its first girls’ game in the tournament. The Junior Lady Panthers eliminated St. Joe by a score of 56-10.
Norfork’s next opponent will be Omaha. Lead Hill fell to the Junior Lady Eagles by a final of 31-21.
Norfork was also victorious on the boys’ bracket. The Junior Panthers picked up the 40-28 decision over Viola.
Bruno-Pyatt was able to pull off an upset to advance to the semifinals. The Junior Patriots edged out Izard County 49-46.
Calico Rock will be Norfork’s semifinal opponent. The top-seeded Junior Pirates defeated Lead Hill 49-12.
On the high school level, a pair of local girls’ teams squared off on the north side of the state line. Gainesville ended up topping Bakersfield 55-30.
