Melbourne teams, Mammoth Spring girls, Rural Special girls, Harrison girls advance to district finals

Thursday’s high school basketball included the semifinals of the 2A-3 District Tournament at Salem.
The host Lady Greyhounds fell to top-seeded Melbourne 60-28. Salem falls to 11-13 on the season. The Lady Bearkatz improve to 26-2.
Melbourne’s boys will join their female counterparts in the finals after defeating Marmaduke 59-50. The top-seeded Bearkatz are now 18-9 on the year.

Mammoth Spring had mixed results in the semifinals of the 1A-3 District Tournament at Maynard.
The top-seeded Lady Bears invoked the mercy rule, as they routed Armorel 72-25. Lauren Mitchell led Mammoth Spring with 28 points, Chevelle Graves scored 15, Terra Godwin had 13, and Shelby VanGinhoven added 12. The Lady Bears stand at 23-7.
Mammoth Spring did not fare as well on the boys’ side falling to Hillcrest 45-37. The Bears were led by Cole Young with 10 points. Mammoth Spring drops to 22-13 on the season, and its next game will be Thursday in the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at Hillcrest Elementary School in Lynn.

The Rural Special girls advanced to the championship game of the 1A-5 District Tournament hosted by Sacred Heart Catholic School. The Lady Rebels knocked off top-seedec Concrod 48-41. Rural Special’s record stands at 18-11 and will return to Morrilton on Saturday.

Harrison’s girls were able to move on to the finals of the 4A-1 District Tournament at Prairie Grove topping Gravette 42-26. The Lady Goblins improve to 26-2, and they’ll take on Farmington on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Gainesville’s girls were successful in their regular season finale. The Lady Bulldogs edged out Conway 38-36.

The Lutie boys finished their regular season on a rough note. The Indians lost at Norwood 60-37.
