Norfork girls advance to 1A-2 finals; Flippin sweeps 2A-1 district titles

The 1A-2 District Tournament held its semifinal round Friday at Omaha.
Norfork’s girls were able to advance to the title game with a 54-45 win over Western Grove. The Lady Panthers improve to 22-9 on the season, and the Lady Warriors fall to 17-13.
Viola will be Norfork’s next opponent, after they defeated Lead Hill 58-20. The Lady Longhorns are now 32-2 on the year, and the Lady Tigers drop to 24-16.
Viola was not as fortunate on the boys’ side, as they fell to Western Grove 67-57. The Longhorns’ record is now 27-7, and the Warriors are 25-8.
Izard County advanced to play Western Grove after beating Omaha 77-44. Caleb Faulkner was the Cougars’ top scorer with 19 points, Dylan Tharp scored 14, and Coby Everett added 13. Izard County has a mark of 32-5 on the season, and the Eagles fall to 20-12.

The 2A-1 District Tournament came to an end at Decatur.
Cotter came in as the top-seeded team on the girls’ bracket, but they ended up losing the title game to Flippin 58-52. The Lady Warriors drop to 20-12 for the season, and the Lady Bobcats improve to 18-15.
Flippin made it a sweep of the district championships, as the boys topped Yellville-Summit 36-25. The Bobcats stand at 25-9, and the Panthers fall to 18-7.
Cotter’s boys ended up finishing third in the tournament with a 45-34 win over Decatur. The Warriors improve to 11-24 on the year.
In the other third-place game, the Yellville-Summit girls were doubled up by Eureka Springs 58-29. The Lady Panthers now have a record of 11-15.

Mammoth Spring’s girls finished the week as the 1A-3 District Tournament champions after beating Hillcrest 54-39 at Maynard. Lauren Mitchell paced the Lady Bears with 18 points, Terra Godwin had 16, and Shelby VanGinhoven and Sara Crowe each chipped in 10. Mammoth Spring is 24-7 on the season and will meet Lead Hill Wednesday in the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at Hillcrest Elementary School in Lynn.

Melbourne ended up with mixed results in the title games of the 2A-3 District Tournament at Salem.
The Lady Bearkatz defeated Marmaduke 54-49. Melbourne’s record improves to 27-2.
Melbourne came up short in the boys’ game, as they lost to Bay 39-36. The Bearkatz drop to 18-10 on the year.

The semifinals of the 3A-1 East District Tournament were held at Bergman.
Mountain View’s girls, the No. 1 seed, eliminated the host Lady Panthers 57-48. The Lady Yellowjackets’ record stands at 22-3, and Bergman falls to 26-11.
Valley Springs will be Mountain View’s next opponent after beating Rose Bud 56-47. The Lady Tigers improve to 29-7 on the year.
Mountain View did not fare as well on the boys’ side, as they fell to top-seeded Valley Springs 70-28. The Yellowjackets are now 11-14, and the Tigers are 31-3.
In the other boys’ semifinal, Bergman dominated Clinton by a score of 71-42. The Panthers improve to 30-6 on the season.

Jasper’s boys took the championship game of the 1A-1 District Tournament down to the wire at Kingston, but they were edged out by the New School 58-57. The Pirates fall to 22-21 on the year.

Elsewhere, Mountain Home Christian Academy was able to sweep Rolla at Mansfield.
The varsity boys’ game ended with the Eagles beating the Royals 66-47. Mountain Home Christian was led by Caleb Spray with 31 points.
Mountain Home Christian also took the varsity girls’ game over Rolla 35-29. Naomi Spray was the Lady Eagles’ leading scorer with 10 points.
The evening began with the 14-and-under boys’ game, as Mountain Home Christian beat Rolla 54-38. Gabe Spray led the 14-and-under Eagles with 21 points, and Jordan Woods added 15.
