Norfork girls fall in district finals; Izard County boys win 6th straight district title

There were several high school basketball teams in postseason play on Saturday.

The 1A-2 District Tournament came to an end at Omaha.
Norfork fell short of the girls’ championship, as they lost to Viola 32-24. The Lady Panthers drop to 22-10 on the season, and the Lady Longhorns improve to 33-2.
The Izard County boys captured their sixth consecutive district title after hitting 18 three-pointers en route to defeating Western Grove 84-46. Coby Everett led the Cougars with 27 points, including 21 from behind the arc, and Caleb Faulkner added 21 points. Izard County is now 33-5 on the year, and the Warriors fall to 25-9.

Valley Springs ended up leaving Bergman with both championship trophies at the 3A-1 East District Tournament.
In the girls’ game, top-seeded Mountain View fell to the Lady Tigers 60-31. The Lady Yellowjackets’ record is now 22-4, and Valley Springs stands at 30-7.
The boys’ game wasn’t as lopsided, as Bergman lost to Valley Springs 68-64. The Panthers drop to 30-7 on the season, and the Tigers improve to 32-3.

The Rural Special girls’ quest for the title of the 1A-5 District Tournament came up short at Morrilton, as they fell to Greers Ferry West Side 41-29. The Lady Rebels will go into regional tournament play with a mark of 17-12.

Harrison’s girls ended up losing the championship game of the 4A-1 District Tournament to Farmington by a final of 54-41. The Lady Goblins left Prairie Grove with a record of 25-3.

District play got underway in Missouri, as two local girls’ teams played their openers in the Class 2, District 10 Tournament at Cabool.
Bakersfield watched its season come to an end falling to top-seeded Hartville 64-33. The Lady Lions’ final record is 8-15.
Gainesville will be the Lady Eagles’ next opponent in Tuesday’s semifinals. In a battle between Lady Bulldogs, Gainesville topped Cabool 57-51. Gainesville improves to 11-13 on the year.

Three local teams began action in the Class 1, District 4 Tournament at Norwood.
Lutie’s boys were one and done, as they were edged out by Bradleyville 59-57. The Indians wrap the year with a mark of 8-17.
Top-seeded Dora will be the Eagles’ next opponent in Tuesday’s semifinals after they hit the century mark in their first game. The Falcons destroyed Exeter by a score of 111-51. Dora was led by Isaac Haney with 23 points, Bryson Luna had 19 points, Auston Luna scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Waylon Masters finished with 13 points, Mason Luna ended up with 11, and Korey Murphy chipped in 10 points. The Falcons are 26-2 on the season.
Dora also advanced to the semifinals on the girls’ bracket, as they pounded Niangua 65-40. The Lady Falcons improve to 13-12, and they’ll face top-seeded Chadwick on Monday.

Ava’s girls were victorious in their opening game of the Class 3, District 4 Tournament at Mountain Grove. In a battle between Lady Bears, Ava eliminated Willow Springs 47-30. Ava is 17-9 on the year and will go up against top-seeded Licking Tuesday in the semifinals.
