29 local basketball teams advance to regionals

The Twin Lakes Area will be represented by 29 area basketball teams during this week’s regional tournaments.

Six local teams will compete in the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Eureka Springs. In girls’ action, Flippin and Hackett will tip off Wednesday at 4 p.m., Yellville-Summit meets Danville Wednesday at 7, and Cotter faces Hector Thursday at 7. On the boys’ side, Flippin takes on Danville Wednesday at 5:30, Cotter plays Hector Thursday at 5:30, and Yellville-Summit will be paired with Hackett Thursday at 8:30.

Ten area teams will gather at Hillcrest Elementary School in Lynn for the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament. On the girls’ bracket, Viola and Armorel get the action started Wednesday at 4 p.m., Mammoth Spring faces Lead Hill Wednesday at 7, Western Grove meets the host Lady Screamin’ Eagles Thursday at 4, and Norfork takes on Maynard Thursday at 7. In the boys’ games, Izard County plays Crowley’s Ridge Academy Wednesday at 5:30, Omaha will be matched up with Hillcrest Wednesday at 8:30, Viola meets Ridgefield Christian Thursday at 5:30, and Mammoth Spring faces Western Grove Thursday at 8:30.

Three local teams will take part in the Class 2A North Regional Tournament at Clarendon. Both girls’ teams will play Wednesday as Salem and Earle tip off at 4 p.m., and Melbourne takes on Cross County at 7. Melbourne’s boys will play Earle Thursday at 5:30.

Three area schools will send both of their teams to Waldron for the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament. On the girls’ side, Bergman and Charleston get started Wednesday at 4 p.m., Valley Springs will go up against the host Lady Bulldogs Wednesday at 7, and Mountain View meets West Fork Thursday at 4. In the boys’ games, Mountain View faces Elkins Wednesday at 5:30, Valley Springs takes on Greenland Wednesday at 8:30, and Bergman plays Charleston Thursday at 5:30.

The Rural Special girls will be at Bradford on Thursday for their first game in the Class 1A Region 3 Tournament. The Lady Rebels will be paired with Midland at 7 p.m.

Harrison’s girls will have their opener in the Class 4A North Regional Tournament Thursday at Berryville. The Lady Goblins will tip off at 4 p.m. against Clarksville.

Both of Jasper’s teams will compete in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament Thursday at Alpena. The Lady Pirates will meet County Line at 4 p.m., and the Jasper boys will face the Future School of Fort Smith at 8:30.
