Season ends for Cotter teams; Norfork girls clinch state berth

There was plenty of high school basketball on Thursday, as regional tournaments throughout Arkansas wrapped up their opening rounds.

Three local teams were eliminated from the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Eureka Springs.
Cotter’s girls ended up getting edged out by Hector by a final of 53-52. The Lady Warriors’ season comes to an end at 20-13.
Cotter was also one-and-done on the boys’ side after falling to Hector 40-34. The Warriors’ final record is 11-25.
Yellville-Summit was bounced in the other boys’ game, as they lost to Hackett 48-42. The Panthers wrap up the campaign at 18-8.

The Class 1A Region 2 Tournament completed its first round at Hillcrest Elementary School in Lynn.
The Norfork girls were able to punch their ticket to next week’s state tournament after breezing past Maynard 62-38. The Lady Panthers improve to 23-10 on the year.
The season ended for Western Grove’s girls, as they fell to Hillcrest 71-53. The Lady Warriors finish the year with a mark of 17-14.
The Viola boys were able to advance to the semifinals after topping Ridgefield Christian 50-42. The Longhorns are now 29-7 on the season.
Mammoth Spring took the other boys’ game over Western Grove by a score of 53-44. Alex Mero led the Bears with 21 points, and Cole Young added 14. Mammoth Spring improves to 23-13, and the Warriors end the year at 25-10.

Melbourne’s boys were eliminated from the Class 2A North Regional Tournament at Clarendon, as they lost to Earle 50-46. The Bearkatz wrap up the season at 18-11.

Two area teams secured a state tournament berth after their openers in the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament at Waldron.
The Mountain View girls picked up a 57-44 victory over West Fork. The Lady Yellowjackets improve to 23-4 on the year.
Bergman’s boys were able to beat Charleston by a final of 62-52. The Panthers record stands at 31-7.

The Rural Special girls dominated their opener in the Class 1A Region 3 Tournament at Bradford, as they pounded Midland 55-29. The Lady Rebels improve their mark to 18-12.

Harrison’s girls clinched a state tournament bid after their opener in the Class 4A North Regional Tournament at Berryville. The Lady Goblins defeated Clarksville 62-46, and their record is now 26-3.

Jasper had mixed results in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at Alpena.
The Pirates won on the boys’ side, as they squeaked by the Future School of Fort Smith 79-76. Jasper improves to 23-21 on the season.
The Jasper girls did not fare as well after falling to County Line 53-38. The Lady Pirates end the year at 16-16.

In Missouri, Forsyth’s boys were the lone area team in action, as they took part in the semifinals of the Class 3, District 11 Tournament at Strafford. The Panthers were edged out by the host and top-seeded Indians 66-64. Forsyth finishes the season at 17-11.
