Lady Bombers topple Vilonia at state tournament

The Mountain Home Lady Bombers held the Vilonia Lady Eagles scoreless in the third quarter and knocked off the No. 1 seed from the 5A-West Conference by a 50-43 count in the opening round of the Class 5A State Tournament at Russellville.Mountain Home improves to 22-6 on the season and advances to the quarterfinals to meet the winner of Wednesday’s game between Watson Chapel and Hot Springs. That game is slated for Thursday night at 7.Vilonia sees its season end at 25-3.

The Lady Bombers held a 12-11 lead after a quarter, only to see the Lady Eagles surge back for a 23-19 advantage at the half. Mountain Home would seize control of the contest by outscoring Vilonia 10-0 in the third quarter to take control at 29-23. The Lady Bombers would lead by double digits in the final stanza before settling for the seven-point victory.

Kate Gilbert led Mountain Home with 19 points, and Addison Yates chipped in 16. Anna Grace Foreman added nine for Mountain Home.
