Incumbent State Representative Nelda Speaks turned back challenger Paige Dillard Evans on Tuesday by garnering 59 percent of the vote in Baxter County during Super Tuesday’s Republican Preferential Primary.
Speaks collected 2,548 votes to Dillard’s 1,807. She will now face Libertarian Kevin Vornheder in November’s General Election.
After the final totals were announced shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, Speaks is excited about her chance to return to the General Assembly.

The turnout for the election was higher than officials expected with just over 29 percent. A total of 8,307 of Baxter County’s 28,631 registered voters cast ballots on Tuesday.
