Incumbent State Representative Nelda Speaks turned back challenger Paige Dillard Evans by garnering 59 percent of the vote for the District 100 seat in Baxter County during Super Tuesday’s Republican Preferential Primary.Speaks collected 2,548 votes to Dillard’s 1,807. She will now face Libertarian Kevin Vornheder in November’s General Election.
After the final totals were announced shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, Speaks says she is excited about her chance to return to the General Assembly.

Though disappointed by the loss, Dillard Evans expressed her thanks to those that supported her campaign.

The turnout for the election was higher than officials expected with just over 29%. A total of 8,307 of Baxter County’s 28,631 registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s election.
