Five area high school basketball teams played their openers in the Class 1A State Tournament at Lake Hamilton High School in Pearcy.
Norfork’s girls were victorious in their first game, as they defeated Concord 52-35. The Lady Panthers improve to 25-11 on the season.
The season came to an end for the Mammoth Spring girls after falling to Greers Ferry West Side 54-49. Terra Godwin led the Lady Bears with 20 points, and Lauren Mitchell and Megyn Upton added 10 points each. Mammoth Spring wraps up the year at 25-10.
Rural Special’s girls were able to advance to the quarterfinals, after they topped Hillcrest 41-34. The Lady Rebels are now 20-13, and they’ll meet Alpena on Friday.
The Viola boys were eliminated from the tournament, as they fell to Wonderview 59-50. The Longhorns finishes the season with a mark of 29-10.
Mammoth Spring’s boys were also bounced from the tournament after losing to Concord 59-40. The Bears were led by Alex Mero with 12 points. Mammoth Spring wraps up the campaign at 24-15.
The season came to an end for Flippin, as both teams took part in the Class 2A State Tournament at Quitman.
The Bobcat boys ended up suffering a 71-63 loss to Pangburn. Flippin’s final record on the season was 27-11.
Flippin did not fare any better on the girls’ side falling to Des Arc 49-38. The Lady Bobcats finish the year at 20-17.
Two area teams played their opening games in the Class 3A State Tournament at Charleston.
The Mountain View girls ended with a 56-43 victory over Helena-West Helena. The Lady Yellowjackets improve to 25-5 on the season.
Bergman’s boys were one-and-done after falling to Dumas 55-35. The Panthers wrapped up the year with a record of 32-9.
In Missouri, the Ava boys came out on the winning end in their sectional game of the Class 3 State Tournament. The game went down to the wire with the Bears edging out St. Pius X from Festus by a final of 57-56 on the Missouri S&T campus in Rolla. Ava is 24-5 on the year and will head to Farmington on Saturday to meet Charleston in the quarterfinals.
