Norfork girls’ season ends in state quarterfinals

Two area high school basketball teams were in action Thursday in the Class 1A State Tournament at Lake Hamilton High School in Pearcy.
Norfork’s girls watched their season come to an end in the first quarterfinal game, as they fell to Kirby 54-41. The Lady Panthers’ final record is 25-12.
The Jasper boys were eliminated in the final opening round game of the tournament after losing to Kirby 65-38. The Pirates wrap up the year with a mark of 17-19.

Melbourne’s girls will be advancing to the semifinals of the Class 2A State Tournament after topping Bigelow 54-38 at Quitman. The Lady Bearkatz improve to 32-2 on the season, and their next game will be Saturday, when they face the winner of Friday’s game between Riverside and Des Arc.

The Mountain View girls took the first quarterfinal game of the Class 3A State Tournament at Charleston. The Lady Yellowjackets ended Hoxie’s 20-game winning streak with a 60-41 victory. Mountain View is now 26-5 and will meet Charleston or Central Arkansas Christian on Saturday.
