Lady Bombers fall to Nettleton in state semifinals

The season came to an end Saturday for the Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team, as they fell one win short of an appearance in next weekend’s state championship game. The Lady Bombers fell to Nettleton 50-31 in the semifinals of the Class 5A State Tournament at Russellville.

Mountain Home was off to a good start building a 14-9 lead in the second quarter, but the Lady Raiders went on a run of 14 straight points extending into the third period. The Lady Bombers were held to just four points in the third quarter, as Nettleton pulled further away and eventually went on to win by 19.

Kate Gilbert led Mountain Home with 12 points. For the Lady Raiders, Elauna Eaton scored 19 points, and Briley Pena added 15.

Nettleton improves to 27-5 on the season and will meet Greenwood for the Class 5A state title next Saturday at Bank OZK Arena in Hot Springs. The Lady Bombers wrap up the campaign with a record of 23-7.
