MH girls to face Nettleton in state semifinals

The Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team is one win away from its first state finals appearance in 25 years. The Lady Bombers will be back in Russellville on Saturday, as they go up against Nettleton in the semifinals of the Class 5A State Tournament.
Mountain Home is 23-6 on the season after beating Watson Chapel in its quarterfinal game on Thursday. Nettleton beat up on Sylvan Hills Friday to improve to 26-5.
As conference foes in the 5A-East, this will be the third meeting between the Lady Bombers and the Lady Raiders. Mountain Home swept Nettleton in the regular season with the most recent game on Feb. 21, when the Lady Bombers picked up the 51-44 victory.
Tip-off at Cyclone Arena is scheduled for noon. Saturday’s game can be heard on Classic Hits 101.7 and streaming live at ktlo.com.

Two local teams will return to Lake Hamilton High School in Pearcy for the semifinals of the Class 1A State Tournament. Viola’s girls will meet Greers Ferry West Side at 6 p.m., and the Izard County boys face Kirby at 7:30.

Melbourne’s girls will continue their defense of last year’s state title, as they will play in the semifinals of the Class 2A State Tournament at Quitman. The Lady Bearkatz will take on Des Arc at noon.

Two area girls’ teams will be back in Charleston for the semifinals of the Class 3A State Tournament. Mountain View plays the host Lady Tigers at noon, and Valley Springs will be paired with Mayflower at 6.

Dora is one of two area boys’ teams one win away from a trip to Missouri’s Show Me Showdown. The Falcons will be in Van Buren, as they meet Delta in the quarterfinals of the Class 1 State Tournament at 2:45.

The Ava boys also have a trip to Springfield on the line, as they head to Farmington for their quarterfinal game in the Class 3 State Tournament. The Bears will face Charleston at 2:45.
